Common Anemia Symptoms
What are the symptoms of anemia? Anemia is a condition that can often be overlooked as a cause for many of the symptoms that are commonly experienced, such as fatigue. Though there are many things that may lead to fatigue: hormone imbalance, stress, poor diet, or a lack of sleep, anemia may be something to rule out.
Dr. Hayden and Dr. Horsley will help to clear up some of the questions that you may have concerning anemia as they continue their series, “Understanding Anemia – Overcoming Fatigue, Bruising, and Other Symptoms”. You will learn about what anemia is, what the symptoms are, how it is diagnosed, what the best treatment options are, and what it is commonly misdiagnosed as. These videos will be released over the next couple days on our youtube account, facebook account, and as a blog post on The Hayden Institute website.
Transcript From Video on Common Anemia Symptoms:
Dr. Hayden: Hey everybody, thanks for joining us, in this video we’re continuing with this concept of anemia. In our last video, we talked about what anemia is. Now in this video the big questions is what does anemia cause in someone or what types of symptoms might come be present with somebody if they are anemic. So, Dr. Horsley, what are the top maybe three or four symptoms that someone might experience with anemia?
Dr. Horsley: So one of the most common symptoms that someone is going to present with with potential anemia is going to be fatigue. They just say they are tired all the time and nothing seems to help. Another thing is where they may be more likely to have bruising or hair loss or even sometimes lightheadedness or dizziness. So those are some of the major symptoms that some people may experience from anemia.
Dr. Hayden: With every exam we have with our new patients, that’s one of the things we look for – bruising easily. A lot of patients will have bruises on their shins or on their forearms and they don’t even know where they came from. Obviously it’s not always a bad situation. They just walk around and bump into the coffee table or something like that and they bruise and don’t even realize it. However, this tendency to bruise easily could be one of the earliest signs of anemia.
Dr. Hayden: Another common symptom you mentioned is constant fatigue. That’s the number one symptom that people google on the internet – how to overcome fatigue, how to sleep better, how to recover faster… Sometimes in some situations their fatigue is caused by anemia and so we look for bruising and we look for fatigue. Those are two flashing red lights and show that there might be a problem going on.
