The Dangers of Genetically Modified (GMO) Corn… and Why It Matters to You!

The safety of genetically modified organisms (GMO) food is a highly debated subject. The Journal of Food and Chemical Toxicology (Aug 2012) reported along term study of rats (2 years) that lead to a variety of hormone, liver and kidney diseases. Females that were provided GMO corn (Roundup Ready) or that ate foods with Roundup on them demonstrated “large mammary tumors almost always more often than and before controls, the pituitary was the second most disabled organ.”The GMO corn and Roundup group of male rats demonstrated liver congestion and necrosis at a rate of 2.5–5.5 times higher than the control group. They also presented with 4 times the amount of large “palpable tumors.”According to the study, significant abnormalities were identified with the kidneys, indicating that 76% of the altered parameters were kidney related. A battle rages between food companies, biotech industries, health food advocates, physicians, and bloggers over the safety andlong term effects of GMO food. It is estimated that 88% of all of the corn in the United States is genetically modified. Unexplained tumors, kidney disease, liver failure, and hormone gland abnormalities are a few of the reasons I discourage patients from consuming GMO foods, especially GMO corn.Nacho Libre said it best when it comes to corn…
