The Heart Sound Recorder – A New Way to “Muscle Test” the Heart

We’re excited to announce a new service at the office — the Heart Sound Recorder (HSR) — and patients are already loving what it brings to their care experience.

If you’re familiar with manual muscle testing or applied kinesiology, then the concept behind the HSR will feel like a natural extension of the work we already do. You can think of it as a way to “muscle test the heart” — giving us a real-time look at how this vital organ responds to stress, nutrition, and support.

Liz Taylor — Our Heart Sound Recorder Specialist

The Heart Sound Recorder is now available thanks to Liz, who has been trained in using the HSR and will be leading this service in our office. Many of you already know Liz for her kind presence in managing the office and her deep commitment to holistic health. Her role in the office has evolved over the last 5+ years and she is entering into a new phase of clinical care through nutritional support.

Liz is nearing completion of her Diploma in Holistic Nutrition through the Edison Institute of Nutrition, a 2000-hour program that qualifies her to work as a Certified Holistic Nutritionist. Her training combines nutritional biochemistry, functional health assessment, and lifestyle-based wellness planning — making her the perfect person to help patients with the holistic approach to health an nutrition that we incorporate in our office. She currently assists patients with nutritional implementation strategies. With the new addition of the Heart Sound Recorder, she will be able to perform the evaluation, interpret the HSR results and provide recommendations to a targeted wellness plan.

What Is the Heart Sound Recorder?

The Heart Sound Recorder is a non-invasive, computer-based tool that uses a sensitive microphone to record the vibrational energy of your heart. It measures the rate, rhythm, and tone of each beat — providing visual graphs that help us monitor real-time changes in cardiac performance.

How It’s Different From an EKG

It’s important to clarify how the HSR compares to standard heart assessments like an EKG:

  • An EKG (electrocardiogram) measures the electrical activity of the heart and is designed to diagnose heart disease or acute cardiac issues.
  • The Heart Sound Recorder captures mechanical sound patterns and gives us information about how the valves are functioning — particularly in response to nutritional and functional changes.

In other words, while an EKG tells us if your heart is firing correctly, the HSR helps us understand if your heart is expressing itself optimally — and how that expression improves with proper nutritional support.

How It Supports Functional and Nutritional Care

In our office, we use applied kinesiology and manual muscle testing to assess how various organs respond to challenges or support. The HSR acts as another form of feedback — but now from one of the most essential systems in the body.

  • Reveals Nutritional Stress: Subtle imbalances in heart tone can reflect nutritional deficiencies or metabolic strain.
  • Real-Time Supplement Testing: We can observe immediate changes in heart performance when introducing nutritional protocols.
  • Guides Individualized Care: By combining HSR findings with Liz’s holistic nutrition expertise, we can tailor support to your body’s exact needs.

What to Expect with the heart sound recorder

  • Quick and Comfortable: It’s non-invasive and takes just a few minutes.
  • Visual Insight: You’ll get to see real-time graphs of your heart’s performance.
  • Collaborative Care: Liz will walk you through the findings and help you apply nutrition in a way that supports your goals.

A Note on What It’s Not

While incredibly informative, the Heart Sound Recorder is not a diagnostic tool. It doesn’t replace cardiology exams or medical evaluations. It’s meant to help identify nutritional stress patterns and track improvements in real time — especially when paired with personalized, functional support.

Ready to Listen to Your Heart?

We’re thrilled to offer this powerful new tool as part of our clinical nutrition holistic services.
