We appreciate your loyalty and trust. With the uncertain and evolving health situation in the U.S., our highest priority is the health and well-being of our patients, employees, and families. The Hayden Institute is open, and our staff is ready to continue providing exceptional care to our patients, but together, we must remain diligent in taking steps to ensure your visit is as safe and effective as possible.

Over the last couple of weeks, we have been monitoring the spread of COVID-19, as well as looking to the experts (both conventional medicine as well as alternative and functional medicine approaches) on how to individually address the concerns that patient’s have brought to our attention.

Here’s how you can help:

  • Protect yourself and limit large gatherings. Schools, churches, and major sporting events have already canceled their activities. One of the easiest ways to transmit infectious disease is through being in locations with large groups of people. Our office visits will continue, as we meet on an individual basis.
  • Don’t underestimate the potential for this pandemic. When the Corona Virus was first announced, there were a lot of rumors and debate as to if it would be a big deal or not. Was it a biological warfare experiment gone bad? News media hype triggered by an election cycle? etc. Experts agree, this has a potential to be a big deal, and should not be something ignored, but the sky is not falling yet. Here is an excellent long-form interview (1 hour 35 minutes) with one of the leading infectious disease doctors and researchers in the country. It is well worth watching:

Here’s what we are doing:

  • Fist bumps and elbow taps. Unfortunately, we will no longer be shaking hands at the beginning/ending of our appointments in order to reduce the spread of contaminants between patients.
  • We are implementing additional cleaning procedures, such as cleaning doorknobs, exam tables, and other public areas more often.
  • We are monitoring the situation. We promise to remain diligent and intentional in protecting you and making your visit a great experience.

What nutritional/herbal protocol should I follow to protect myself and my kids from COVID-19?!

This is a delicate question, and I do not believe that there is a one size fits all nutritional protocol that is guaranteed to prevent/protect COVID-19. Are there things that should be able to help your immune system? Of course. Should you take something? Maybe. Will you give me a protocol to follow? Probably not. We believe in personalized nutritional and herbal approaches to individualized care plans. Therefore, there is not a bundle of products that I would recommend as a blanket approach to this current situation. Our long standing recommendation to begin using Congaplex and/or Thymex the moment someone begins to be symptomatic continues. Additional herbs such as Illicium have known anti-viral activity, and can be immune-supportive for individuals that are symptomatic, but the best recommendation is receive personalized care for the symptoms that you are experiencing.

We look forward to continuing to be a resource for our patients, and helping you to achieve the level of health you deserve. Please do not hesitate to contact our office if you have any questions.
