Holistic Nutrition in Houston: Liz Taylor presents at Women’s Wellness Event

At The Hayden Institute, we believe that true wellness begins with strong nutritional foundations — and our very own Holistic Nutritionist and Heart Sound Recorder (HSR) Specialist, Liz Taylor, is sharing the message of Holistic Nutrition with the Houston community.

Last week, Liz was invited to speak at a local women’s health and wellness event, where she presented her talk: “Foundations Before Fixes: How to Build Lasting Health from the Inside Out.” In her presentation, Liz reminded attendees that health isn’t about chasing the latest fad diet or supplement trend — it’s about building the non-negotiable nutritional foundations first.

Liz highlighted three core wellness foundations:

Nutritional Foundation #1: Hydration-Water with Purpose

Liz explained that one of the most overlooked nutritional foundations of health is hydration. Every cell in the body requires water to function properly — from energy production to hormone balance. “Without water you’re dead?” Liz joked, making the point clear.

But it’s not just about drinking more water; it’s about absorbing it effectively. Liz shared a simple tip: begin the day with a glass of mineral-rich water, adding a pinch of good quality sea salt and a squeeze of lemon. This not only hydrates but also replenishes electrolytes, setting the tone for steady energy throughout the day.

Nutritional Foundation #2: The Building Blocks of Life

Liz emphasized the role of macronutrients. One of her key takeaways: include protein at every meal. Protein stabilizes blood sugar, supports muscle repair, and provides the lasting satiety needed to avoid the mid-afternoon crash.

Just as important are essential fatty acids, found in fish, nuts, and seeds. Since the body cannot produce them on its own, these fats are critical for reducing inflammation, balancing hormones, and keeping the brain and heart healthy.

Minerals are another cornerstone. “Minerals are often called the spark plugs of the body,” Liz reminded attendees. They support sleep, mood, metabolism, and mental clarity. Yet minerals like magnesium, potassium, calcium, and sodium are often depleted in today’s fast-paced world. Fatigue, muscle cramps, and brain fog can often trace back to low mineral intake. Liz encouraged attendees to nourish themselves with mineral-rich foods daily, such as leafy greens, nuts, seeds, and bone broth.

Nutrtitional Foundation #3: The Stress–Nutrition Connection

Perhaps the most eye-opening part of the presentation was the connection between stress and nutrition. Liz explained how stress rapidly depletes nutrients like magnesium, B vitamins, and vitamin C. This can leave the body “wired but tired,” craving sugar or caffeine, and struggling with sleep or irritability.

She offered practical strategies, like enjoying magnesium-rich snacks such as pumpkin seeds and setting aside two minutes each day for intentional breathing.

Liz also introduced attendees to the Heart Sound Recorder in Houston — a non-invasive tool available at The Hayden Institute that acts like a nutritional stethoscope. By analyzing the rhythm of the heart, the HSR can reveal stress patterns and nutrient needs before they show up as bigger problems.

Food Cravings as Clues

Rather than fighting cravings with willpower alone, Liz encouraged attendees to pause and ask: “What nutrient might my body be missing?” Sugar, chocolate, or salt cravings often point to deeper nutritional needs — a valuable clue for building lasting wellness.

🌿 “When we strengthen these foundations, every other effort — from exercise to supplements to medical care — works better,” Liz shared.
