Gluten Free – Dairy Free Supplements: The Transition Begins
Gluten free and dairy free are common recommendations for patients that come into our office. Research shows that these two categories of foods have the greatest possibility to create a reaction in patients that experience a wide variety of symptoms. From back pain, to headaches, to infertility, cancer, thyroid conditions, and more, research confirms that gluten free and dairy free diets could have an affect on symptomatic relief.
Over the last 12 years, I have used supplements to help patients achieve the level of health they are searching for, in addition to recommending dietary changes. Throughout school, and early in practice I recommended nutritional companies that I was familiar with. Standard Process has been the company that I have used the longest, and have felt the most comfortable with since being on them as a patient first, then starting chiropractic school, and finally opening The Hayden Institute. About 3 years ago, we began expanding the supplements that we carry for our patients in order to provide a more complete option for supporting our patients needs. We started noticing that certain individuals, usually those with a more advanced clinical presentation, those with autoimmune conditions, and also those with significant leaky guy or digestive issues were not responding as well as we would have liked with the gluten free and dairy free diets and supplementation that we were providing. For this purpose we added Apex Energetics product line into our practice.
Our latest change came a year ago when we added the Supreme Nutrition company to our shelves in order to provide another gluten free and dairy free option of supplements. Between Standard Process, Apex Energetics, and Supreme Nutrition, we felt like we were covering all of the bases necessary for supplement and herbal support that would accompany the gluten free and dairy free recommendations that we were giving our patients. We have always known that Standard Process’ supplements contained trace amounts of gluten and dairy, and for most of our patients, the amount present was not enough to elicit a symptomatic response.
Currently I am researching the effects of gluten free and dairy free effects on various symptoms for the second book that I am writing. The evidence is overwhelming, and as an office, we have decided that we will be phasing out all gluten and dairy containing products, even though the majority of the patients that have been using them do not report an increase in symptoms while on them. While we are very happy with the results that we have had with these products over the last 5.5 years in this location, we feel that as we provide herbal and nutritional supplements that are 100% gluten free and dairy free, we will be able to help even more individuals. The transitional process will begin this week. The supplements listed below are not certified gluten free or dairy free, and will not be reordered.
