Why I do What I do: Dr. Hayden’s Story

Dr. Chase’s Personal Health Journey:

“Why I Do What I Do…”

Growing up I was a very active child.  If there was competition, I was there.  From baseball, football, and basketball, to hide and seek and kickball in the front yard, I was not one for holding back or staying indoors when I didn’t have to be.  Since I was always trying new things, I had a tendency to injure myself growing up.  Stitches were not uncommon.  In fact, there was even one week where I went to the hospital three times for stitches in three different places.

As I grew up, I began to realize the important role my parents played in my well being, and today am very grateful for everything that they taught me in regards to my health.  Neither my mother nor father is a health care professional.  In fact, my mother was a stay-at-home mom that was always there for me when I would forget my sacked lunch at home, needed someone to call because I didn’t want to be in school that day, or there with a hug for when I came home.  My father owned his own business helping others to invest their money in mutual funds and other securities, but never missed one of his children’s activities, whether choir, orchestra, football, or Boy Scouts.  I am grateful for my parents for always being there for me.

My parents were always mindful of my health and well being, doing what they thought was best every time I was in need.  The emergency room doctors were always willing to stitch me up, I earned two casts growing up from breaking two bones, and only had to have major surgery twice.  These doctors were excellent in their field, and did what they thought was best in order to resolve my personal issues.

There is one doctor though, that changed my life forever, and helped me decide what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

I was 11 years old, and the running back and kick returner of our Pee Wee football team.  Basically, I got the ball on running plays, and would take a lot of hits throughout the game.  One play in particular stands out in my mind, and was the catalyst to my future.  The other team had just scored (they were the Redskins) and they had just kicked the ball off to us.  I caught it, and began to run.  As I was tackled, and falling to the ground, a player on the opposing team launched himself at me from behind to assist in the tackle.  Unfortunately for me at the time, he hit me just right in order to separate a few ribs from their position in my back, effectively taking me out of the game.  I began to cry.  I could barely breathe, I couldn’t play, and we were getting killed.  I thought my life was over, and that I would never be able to play football again.

The next day at church, my father spoke with the man that would soon change my life.  Brian Van Wagenen was in his last year at Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena, TX.  Brian agreed to “check me out and see what he could do” in order for me to breathe easier, get out of pain, and hopefully return to the football field.  That afternoon we went to his apartment and he began to evaluate me.  I remember struggling to lie on my back, wincing with pain barely able breathe.  He began to test my arms and legs, poking and prodding, he would tell me to move my eyes one way, and retest, breathe in and retest, rub this spot and retest… over and over he would have me perform an action, and then retest a muscle to see the difference.  Much to my surprise, my muscles would return to strength, the pain began to dissipate, and my breathing was no longer labored.  I was amazed!  After about 45 minutes, I was breathing normally, able to move without pain, and was feeling great.  By Thursday I was able to attend our weekly football practice, and the next Saturday I played in the game, all without re-injury.

After that experience I knew I wanted to do the same thing.  My parents began to seek out other Chiropractors that used “Applied Kinesiology” after Dr. Van Wagenen graduated, and moved away to start his practice.  At one point, our Chiropractor began to attend my high school football games and would fix me during half time.  From sprains, bruises, aches, and even a dislocated shoulder, I was always able to return to the game thanks to their help on the sidelines.

After graduating from High School, I immediately sought out the requirements needed to enter into a Chiropractic College so that I too could help others the way that my doctors helped me.  Upon entering my Chiropractic training, I would travel to learn Applied Kinesiology as often as I could.  Sometimes I would drive for eight hours one way, just to attend a weekend seminar.  Through my Applied Kinesiology training, I was lead to Dr. George Gonzalez, developer of Quantum Neurology™.  Once again, a doctor entered my life and gave me the desire to learn and grow so that I could help others.  Quantum Neurology™ has allowed me to expand my understanding on the human body, and the potential of healing that it has.  Our bodies truly are capable of miracles.  Using Quantum Neurology™, Applied Kinesiology, and nutritional supplementation, these miracles are seen daily in our offices.  Even though I found these amazing ways to help the body heal after a traumatic incident, I have since had the privilege of seeing these same concepts affect the lives of those that suffer from stroke, cancer, learning disabilities, infections, and many, many more.  Our services are no longer unique to the patient that experiences pain, now EVERYONE can benefit.

One brief moment in time has encouraged me to embark on a journey of health.  This journey began as a way for me to return to the playing field, but now encompasses my family, my friends, and every person that I come in contact with.  My mission is to help everyone I meet to have a healthier life, and to achieve their health goals, not mine.  I humbly offer my services to you, and together we will work together to achieve a healthier you.

Yours In Health,
