ADHD and Acupuncture

ADHD Acupuncture

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common of the learning disabilities found in children and adults. Symptoms associated include difficulty on focusing or paying attention, controlling behavior, and hyperactivity.  These behaviors can lead to poor performance in school/work, difficulty is social situations, or even finishing simple tasks at home.
The traditional treatment method of ADHD and ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) is with the medical prescription known as a methylphenidate.  These medications over stimulate the adrenal glands and leave the patient in a fight or flight state for 4-12 hours. The longer a patient is on these medications, the more the body relies on the medication to function.  This in turn causes the ADHD patient to require higher and higher dosages with each check up.  Many parents and patients alike are beginning to question the side-effects and are seeking alternative approaches to help with their ADHD/ADD symptoms.
Acupuncture has become one of the preferred alternative therapies for both children and adults suffering from ADHD.  Auricular (ear) acupuncture has been shown to have the more effective results.  The ear may be used alone of in combination with acupuncture points in the body to address underlying issues associated with ADD/ADHD.
Acupuncture patients who receive therapy in our office for their ADHD have reported:
