The Importance of Brain Health

“As the brain grows in size, it requires more and more fuel to sustain the increasing workload. But all the fuel in the biological universe cannot make the cells proliferate in the absence of stimulation. Without stimulation, the brain will not grow. Brain cells will defenerate and die. By age ten, the average child will loose half of the trillion synapses that exist at birth.” Dr. Robert Melillo, Disconnected Kids

As adults, it is important that we are there for the kids in our lifes. And we need to do what we can to help them learn as they grow. One mistake that I have noticed throught my life is that children are becoming too complacent. All children ‘know’ that id they are asked a question and they don’t know the answer, all that is needed is to put on a stange face and be silent. Knowing the answer will be given. Over years, this will lead to young adults who do not know how to think or puzzle things out for themselves and will constantly rely on others for guidance. It all boils back the the old saying, “If you don’t use it. You loose it.”
