The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do

Recently I have attempted to increase my understanding of the human brain, and why we make certain decisions. In our office, we want to be able to help patients to achieve the level of health that they deserve, without the use of drugs or surgery.

For some patients, following the dietary recommendations, supplement protocols, exercise programs, and rehabilitation protocols that are necessary for their improvement is easy. Others have a harder time, and struggle to overcome their habits. From weight loss, to exercise, to biting your nails, communicating with your kids/spouse, and even running a business, habits affect every aspect of our life.

The Power of Habit, by Charles Duhigg, is an amazing book that shows how we are able to apply the neurological wiring of the brain in order to change the habits that are currently holding us back. Many people have new years resolutions that they start, yet do not keep. Individuals makes promises to themselves yet break them unconsciously due to their habits.

I have read The Power of Habits twice in the last month, and each time I have seen habits where I can improve in my personal health and wellness, in the way I speak with my wife and children, and  how I interact with patients. It is a great book and I recommend it. Check out the video about the book and see for yourself.
