Shoulder Pain and Acupuncture

The shoulder is one of the most used joints in the body.  It is also one of the most mobile joints.  Due to its excessive use and mobility, it is one of the easiest joints to cause pain.

What causes Shoulder Pain?

The shoulder is prone to injury due it being a ball and socket joint.  Therefore, there are more chances for injury.

There are key muscles referred to as around the rotator cuff (the Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres Minor, and Subscapularis) and the biceps tendon which help to move and stabilize the shoulder.  These structures, prevent the arm from dislocating out of the socket.  This can be very painful and render the arm ineffective.

Some of he conditions that can lead to shoulder pain include:

Each of these conditions can elicit a change in function of the shoulder and can even provoke pain.  Many of these are the result of inflammation of the soft tissue structures, such as the ligaments, tendons, and muscles.  Frozen shoulder, for example, is a result of when pain causes a lack of mobility and “freezes” the joint. Shoulder Pain Treatment with Acupuncture

Acupuncture treatment focuses on reducing inflammation, decreasing pain, and improving blood flow.  Acupuncture has been shown in our Pearland office to excel at treating the chronic, nagging type injuries that don’t respond well to most conventional treatments.

Acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins and enkephalins (pain killing chemicals) as well as adenosine (a natural pain killer with anti-inflammatory properties).  By using acupuncture methods that stimulate distal treatment points (ie-away from painful areas), we can achieve results without causing any additional discomfort in the shoulder.

Do you have shoulder pain that conventional treatments have not helped? Do something about it, and start making changes today. If we can be of assistance, do not hesitated to contact our Friendswood location. We provide complementary and alternative medicine services from chiropractic, acupuncture, nutrition, weight loss, neurological rehabilitation, and more.
